Education: Dreams for Orphans News & Updates

Our mission is to give hope to orphans in developing countries through education and a safe environment…

Education and improving learning for children and young adults in developing countries is a major part of the Dreams for Orphans mission. In our everyday efforts, we first and foremost see to these kids’ living condition and basic needs, but the next big goal – and long term process – is to enhance their education.

We ask you to join with us in these two very important aspects to our mission by sponsoring a child’s education and learning process. Of course, you can always raise awareness, fundraise, or donate to Dreams for Orphans efforts, but you can also sponsor a child’s education ongoing with recurring donations. Your contribution will not only purchase necessary books and school materials, it will also help to cover the child’s school uniform and even tutoring if they need it to succeed in their studies.

Here’s an example of how your money can work…

Edward is a Dreams for Orphans sponsored youth who has achieved some great accomplishments as a sophomore at Ashesi University in Ghana. He was in desperate need of a computer to keep up with technology and the other students at Ashesi, so he notified us about his need in order to continue to succeed in a high tech world and competitive University.

Melanie Napp, a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, donated money for a new laptop for Edward, and had the amazing opportunity to hand-deliver the new computer to him at Ashesi University. Of course, Edward was beyond excited to receive this wonderful gift from Dreams for Orphans and Melanie Napp. The Malloy and Osika/Patinos families sponsor Edward’s room and board. We thank all of our sponsors on any level for their continued support.

With supportive sponsors like these, Dreams for Orphans is bridging the gap for orphans like Edward to succeed in their studies! We thank all our sponsors on any level for their continued support.

Another example of Dreams for Orphans’ efforts in education is the field trip fund we raised for some Osageafyo children. Once we received the funds to send these children on an educational field trip excursion, Delta Gate Agent Seth Quartey hand-delivered the funds to the school.

With our “On the Ground” partners like Melanie and Seth, Dreams for Orphans is able to not only meet these orphans educational needs through financial and supply donations, but we’re also able to ensure these important resources go straight to the source.

A brief update on our Pediatric Care Unit project… Another on the ground partner:

Since the cleaning of the trenches was completed, work has continued on the foundation. We purchased the iron rods, gravel and cement required to continue foundation work, and in the meantime, the blocks are still being molded. Steel benders and masons continue their work, mixing and pouring concrete into the ground and mounting the iron forms and mats for the pillars of the structure.

About the Author
My 24 years as a flight attendant have enabled me to travel and see much of the world. When I started going to Africa my passion was born to help the less fortunate and show my own 3 children this imbalance. I wanted them to know they had a responsibility to others as they grow up in a world that most things are readily accessible to them and are not to most the world. It is easy to fall in love with children in Africa. It is more difficult to find appropriate ways to help. Education was by far the first tool we knew could be powerful and effective. Combining this with improved environment, enables them to grow and thrive with food, shelter, medical care and most of all love.I travel to Ghana as a flight attendant monthly and enjoy taking my children on working trips as well as our own vacation time. Being on the ground making sure the DFO funds are carefully dispatched is rewarding and I am compensated by their huge smiles and hugs every time I visit. Seven years have gone by so fast and I cannot imagine my life without DFO and all the children. As Dreams continues to grow I relish the fact that the number of orphans we are helping is increasing. We are able to expand to more orphanages and provide education and safe environments to those orphans who deserve a rich and happy life.
